VHF NET Exercise Messages for 1st October 2022 – EXERCISE PARTICIPANT VERSION
Issue 1
Iain Moffat
30/09/2022
Note:
I have written out the first message for each point as it will be spoken over the air so you just have to fill in your call sign and the time.
I have written the rest as they would appear on the message form so you will need to construct the headers – the word count is the message body minus punctuation (highlighted in red in the first message) – use the actual time and location unless specified in the script. If a specific time is given try to send the message ASAP after that time to trigger other exercise events.
Remember to use “EXERCISE MESSAGE BEGINS” instead of “FORMAL MESSAGE BEGINS” for every message sent so that no one listening believes there is a real incident.
In a real event, messages from the VHF Net addressed to “GOLD CONTROL” or “COUNTY” would be passed by control into the DMR NET. Due to the small number of participants we have limited resources at control so we will not be passing messages from the VHF Net on to the “COUNTY” and “GOLD CONTROL” stations at Landmark House on DMR on this occasion. Control will be checking that what is sent matches the source and recalculating the word count. The DMR stations will have their own traffic sheets.
Please allow some other stations to send a message before sending your next one.
If you have a routine message you should wait until the channel is clear.
If your next message is priority or immediate you should break in when a routine message is being sent by calling “POINT x PRIORITY” or “POINT x IMMEDIATE” in the gap between a station saying “ROGER SO FAR” and Control replying “SO FAR”.
If you hear Control handling a higher priority message do not transmit again until Control invites further routine traffic unless you have immediately relevant information. In that case send “POINT x RELEVANT” once and wait for Control to invite you to transmit.
